edginess, sex appeal and humanitarian work. Her part in Girl, Interrupted
(1999) was a part she won for the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor

when she was 11. After two years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film

productions, she also played the role of a model as well as appearing in music
videos.Jolie's first film-related role was in Hackers (1995), during the
filming of which she became engaged to her first husband British actor Jonny
Lee Miller (married 1996 divorced in 1999). In addition to the other films, the
film did not gain a traction. Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's
governor, garnering much attention in 1997. Jolie later won an award, the
Golden Globe Award. In the following year, she played an actress who was
struggling with addiction issues in the HBO film Gia, a performance that
brought her numerous awards, including a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild

Billy Bob Thornton, and in the year following she got married to Thornton
(divorced 2003).After her Oscar-winning role in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie
appeared in a string of action movies. She played the wife of an armed

British accent and learned street fighting and kickboxing for the title roles
in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life
(2003). She played the mother of Alexander in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004)
and also appeared alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The

poorly in the box office, however Jolie's Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) was
successful. Jolie played a character pretending to play a normal householdwife
as she worked on the film. Brad Pitt became her partner in the film.
